Spring is knocking on the door and pretty soon, the sun will be shining to offer warmer days allowing us to get on those outdoor chores we have put off all winter. One of those outdoor jobs will most likely be cleaning those windows, especially if you live in an area that received a lot of rain and snow. I like as much natural light as possible in my home, so the only windows I cover in my house are the bedrooms, everything else I leave uncovered. The big windows are stunning … when they are clean. Cleaning the windows can seem like an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are my simple tips for sparkling clean windows:
Outdoor: When the sun finally starts shining again, it can be painfully obvious that the windows need a good cleaning. Remove any window screens before cleaning and hose them off to remove dust and debris. The best product I have found to clean the outside of windows is Windex® Outdoor Glass Cleaning Pads. The starter kit comes with an extendable pole, cleaning head and one cleaning pad. After assembling the kit, simply spray the window and cleaning pad with a garden hose. Then, wipe the window with the cleaning pad and rinse with the hose.
Indoor: I like to go old school and use rubbing alcohol. For convenience, buy an inexpensive spray bottle for the alcohol. Then spray and wipe clean with coffee filters.

Window tracks: The tracks can often be overlooked, but boy can they look nasty. All you need to do is purchase a package of the disposable sponge paintbrushes, soak in your favorite all-purpose cleaner, and wipe down the tracks.

Moldy windowsills: If you notice black speckles on your windowsills, this is most likely an indicator of mold due to moisture. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and 3-4 drops of tea tree oil. Spray and let the solution site for about half an hour, then scrub the mold away with a paper towel. If you do notice mold, it may be time to replace your windows.
